Santa Cruz Island
Largest of the Channel Islands, Santa Cruz Island was once the largest privately owned island off the continental United States. The coastline has steep cliffs, gigantic sea caves, remnants of private ranches, and sandy beaches.
The National Park Service now owns 24% and The Nature Conservancy owns 76%. The Oak Group has been raising funds for the Nature Conservancy’s island fund at Stanton Ranch in the central valley since 1992. Annual shows were held on the island for many years as well as exhibitions at mainland venues. The Oak Group’s most recent island show was 2009. Visit www.tnccalifornia.org
